Pétur Sakari (b. 1992) is a Finnish organist celebrated by the world’s leading music publications as a virtuoso of the highest order. He gave his first solo concert at age 13 and quickly made his international debuts at prestigious venues including Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, the Turku Music Festival, and the International Organ Series in Stuttgart, Bonn, and Reykjavik, establishing himself on the global stage.

Rooted in the French organ tradition, Sakari’s repertoire spans Renaissance and Baroque works, large-scale Romantic compositions, contemporary music, and world premieres. He is an acknowledged authority on the new Rieger organ at Helsinki Music Centre, having served as a construction consultant and currently sitting on the board overseeing its artistic use.

Alongside his solo career, Sakari collaborates with world-renowned ensembles such as VOCES8 and The Sixteen, and celebrated singers including Camilla Nylund, Soile Isokoski, Jorma Hynninen, and Tuomas Katajala. He is also a dedicated pedagogue, sharing his expertise through masterclasses and workshops worldwide.

 

Highlights of the upcoming season include debuts at Budapest’s Béla Bartók Concert Hall, Stockholm’s City Hall and Concert Hall, Vienna’s Stephansdom; duo concerts with organist and composer Thierry Escaich, Titular Organist of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris; and a Scandinavian tour with VOCES8.

He studied at the Helsinki Conservatory, the Sibelius Academy, and the École Normale de Musique in Paris, with his main teachers being the legendary organists Kalevi Kiviniemi, Thierry Escaich, and Vincent Warnier, and further refined his artistry in masterclasses with Ton Koopman, Pierre Pincemaille, Wolfgang Rübsam, and Daniel Roth.

Alongside an active international touring schedule, Sakari currently serves as Organist in Residence at Diapason Group and as artistic director of both the WerkFest and the Lapua Organ Festival.

Sakari’s acclaimed recordings on labels such as BIS Records and Sony Classical have received awards including Best Recording of the Year from leading international music publications. He is currently recording the complete organ works of César Franck, Louis Vierne, and Franz Liszt.
